Paul George Set for Season Debut with 76ers Against Suns; Embiid Out as NBA Probes Locker Room Incident

Date:

Philadelphia 76ers star Paul George is expected to make his season debut on Monday against the Phoenix Suns, pending any setbacks, according to sources from ESPN. George, a nine-time NBA All-Star, has been sidelined since October 14 after suffering a bone bruise in his left knee during a preseason game against the Atlanta Hawks. The injury occurred when his knee buckled while defending in the second quarter, but fortunately, tests confirmed there was no structural damage.

After completing a 5-on-5 scrimmage on Friday and going through practice on Sunday in Phoenix, the 34-year-old George is listed as questionable for Monday’s game, with anticipation building around his return.

The 76ers’ upcoming schedule includes a three-game road trip through the Western Conference, beginning in Phoenix. The team will then face the Clippers in Los Angeles on Wednesday, marking George’s return to his former home court. George previously played five seasons with the Clippers before signing a four-year, $212 million contract with Philadelphia over the summer. The road trip will conclude on Friday when the 76ers face off against the Los Angeles Lakers.

The 76ers have faced challenges early in the season, holding a 1-4 record and playing without 2023 MVP Joel Embiid, who is managing his own left knee injury. The team confirmed that Embiid will remain out for Monday’s game as he recovers.

Additionally, the NBA has opened an investigation into a reported altercation involving Embiid and a local columnist following Saturday’s home game in Philadelphia. According to a league spokesperson, Embiid expressed frustration with the columnist, resulting in a brief physical incident that took place in the locker room in front of team staff and players.
