Martin Melandi, the technical director of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) has urged corporate organisations to sponsor division one, two and beach tour volleyball competitions.
Melandi told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Abuja the federation needs more sponsors to support them with other events
“ We are calling on corporate organisations and philanthropists to come to our rescue.
“We have the division one and two; we also have the beach Volleyball Tour league.
“We still do not have sponsors for these three leagues, we will be happy if they partner with us so that we can help the youths.
“Taking them off the streets and from bad influence and engage them in volleyball will help them to build their career in the sport.
“Some of them have gone abroad to play in foreign countries and they are doing very well, and from there they will have a brighter and better future,”he said
Melandi congratulated the Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi for sponsoring the ongoing Volleyball Premier League..
“This is a great relieve for the federation, and every team participating in this event are very happy that we now have a sponsor.
“This is the seventh year, for six years we have been organising this premier league under the leadership of Musa Nimrod, the president of the Federation without sponsors.
“This support will benefit the athletes and the clubs and this will also motivate the players to do more in terms of playing the sport,”he said.
A total of 24 teams which included 12 men and 12 women teams are participating in the League.
The first phase of the League which stated on Aug. 26 is expected to end on Sept. 10 at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium.
